pimped...

of all the days to get pimped at lab by the consultants...

so, our anatomy teacher omits teaching us the nerves of the leg and foot today, and what happens? we get a resident and his boss at our table pimping all three of us out on nerve questions...

that was a rough one... ouch...

anyway, that's a nice lead in to a photo of the group--table 11--enjoy!!!

that's me, priyanka, and petrice at our dissection table... what an awesome group... we rock...

intubation...

we had a workshop tonight run by the Emergency Medicine Interest Group on intubation (inserting a breathing tube into the trachea to secure the patient's airway) and it was awesome... i think i've got a real knack for it--came easily, and i rather enjoyed it...

anesthesiology maybe?

Probably not...

Thanksgiving at the Timpe's was an excellent, excellent time. I had the best pecan pie I've ever had in my life, and I walked away with the whole one Jason's aunt made for him... I feel bad about it, but not really... it was a heck of a pie...

anyway, another picture:

here's Diana (left) and Ashlee (right) enjoying sushi at Nami, a rather nice japanese restaurant in the twin cities... that was the first sushi i've had in four months, and it was a welcome change of pace... or maybe a return to normalcy...

allergy testing...

started allergy today, and, as part of the class, we did allergy testing on each other...

anyway, i'm not allergic to anything tested, so, here's the question:

insufficient immune system or superior genetic specimen?

you decide...

cheers,

seed crystal...

do you remember taking tests... long exams, where you've worked through everything, and you're pretty much done... maybe you could look it over more, or run through your work again--certainly something to better your performance could be done--but you just can't bring yourself to do it...

you look up and around the room... most people are still sitting there working... the geniouses have trickled out already buzzing with their smug comparisons of whose methods were superior...

and you're done... forget it... maybe you'll just sit there in the chair and think about your upcoming holiday or something like that... too embarassing to get up quite yet...

and then, some gets up and leaves... and then another... the dam has effectively broken down... and then you get up in leave...

it takes that first one--that first person to say to themselves "screw this... i'm out of here..." and they're off...

what is that peer pressure all about anyway...??? I don't know... but today, i think i was that seed person... and it's quite the honor...

----

anybody following the sox?

i can't believe this move... i'm absolutely giddy out here... it's just ridiculous... i can't believe it... hard to believe it's even true...

just shocking, shocking... what a development...

enough said...

well, that's it...

but before we go, i promised another shot from life here and rochester, so here it is:

left, that's my boy doc scott--sharp as a whip--and on the right, that's dave--also a crackerjack mind...

this is us, again, at binkeys...

and that's it... happy t-day everyone--i'm off to the timpe family holiday...

disregard this post... keep scrolling down...

if you've seen it, you've seen it... if you haven't there's a higher resolution photo later...

just doing some tinkering...

the juxtapositions of medschool...

medschool has some wonderful juxtapositions... probably best considered by those in the field, but of potential amusement for all...

for instance, isn't there just something about eating a caeasar salad while studying the mechanism of defecation...

personally, i think the contrast is striking...

for the third post in a row--let's commence with "ugh"

"ugh"

no, but really... the state of sports announcing is atrocious... in almost all sports... and while taking in a few minutes of today's bears/panthers football contest, i witnessed an announcing faux pas so bad i fell off my couch laughing...

so, here it goes... a little blog one-act play for your enjoyment:

--kyle orton completes a quick pass for a first down--
"look at that protection... you can't give a quarterback all of that time..."
"let's watch this replay here..."
--slow-motion replay of the pass rolls--
"one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand, four-one thousand, five-" (real-time counting)
"you can't be giving a professional quarterback time like that to pass..."
--end--

anyway, you think they would have covered slow motion footage in announcer school...

just ridiculous...

and with that, let's continue with the photo serious of my life here,

these lovely folk are some of my friends here at the wfmc/wfmms... this is us hanging out a binkey's on a monday night... left to right: ryan (surgeon-to-be extraordinaire), matt (masterful vocalist and medical prodigy), katie (the wonderful spirit and incredible talent, as well as wife to), Dave (who's 27th b-day was just celebrated last night... he's a dentist now being trained in facial surgery--awesome, huh?).

aren't they wonderful?

ok, next time i'll throw up a few more photos of the life and times...

uterus...? uh, i mean bladder...

ugh--talk about embarrassment...

during a rare, impromptu label the structure activity in class, when called upon, i called the bladder the uterus...

i think that may be the high for feeling stupid so far...

and what kills me is that i just labelled it in my head as bladder, and i called it uterus...

at least the week is almost over...

it's here...

ugh... it's snowing out...

actually, it's a nasty, nasty sleet, and it's probably going to go for a day or two...

so, that brings to conclusion the supposedly "unseasonably warm" fall to a conclusion, and we're staring down the barrel of god-knows-how-many weeks of winter...

i wonder how bad it'll actually be?

anyone, outside of that depressing news, i've got some additional photos, so lets just post one of the newest addition to my home...

this is Willy (aka Dr. William Quigley Peepers)--the new budgie in the house...

he's a rag time fan... thank you, Le Show...

halloween fun in anatomy...

anyway, just some photos from a presentation on cadaver procurement in our anatomy lab on halloween... no commentary added... enjoy...

oh, ok... minimal commentary added...

ok, here's tony, parisi, albert, and jeff hauling a large bag of something...

and enter our master of ceremonies/special presenter...

Dr. C (right) setting us up for our somewhat morbid, if not extremely interesting, presentation on old skool cadaver procurement...

no words necessary...

and, um... ok...

anyway, this is what passes for fun these days... =)

no, it was great...

Boston photo retrospective, part II

ahh, finally... time for part II...

today's installment largely focuses on the events of the sunday of my visit back to boston--dim sum w/ friends and an afternoon of strolling and hanging out... enjoy...

Spencer and... Morris? On-time?

shocking but true...

Miki (Mom), Maddie, and Spencer (Dad) at Dim Sum... just like old times...

I haven't yet found a dim sum restaurant in MSP, but after a visit to a phenomenal japanese restaurant on friday night, it's high up on my list of priorities...

Maddie and Daddie... cute...

spener, slim, and deajane... nice of the last two to come out--we (and especially me now) don't often get to see them...

from the left to right--morris & caroline, rome & naomi...

unfortunately, these disposable cameras really don't do so well in mixed lighting... right, naomi?

i've really need to pick myself up a digital camera... film and develop costs are getting a bit out of control... especially on a med student's budget...

uncle stimpe doing what he does best, and me just ecstatic to be home hanging out w/ friends in a most familiar haunt...

rome, naomi and i... again, i can't emphasize enough how much of a good time i had...

god, i love the food there, too... (for those of you who are "regular" readers, this is the same restaurant referred to in the first photo retrospective--tim and i had a late night snack there)

CLee and me chillin' at DT Xing...

hanging w/ my boys in front of barnes and noble...

we came this close to getting Pat the Patriot into the photo, but you can't have everything...

it was a really beautiful day, too...

the four of us being as productive as we ever are...

love spencer and miki's new place, by the way... although it's exactly like their old place but bigger...

maddie and mom up to their old tricks... i can't believe how much she's grown in the last three months...

and what retrospective wouldn't be complete without a late night shot of sal, that dapper chap here... he's dropping off at logan here at about 5 a.m...

good man, good man...

and that's it for the second installment of the october boston photo retrospective... join us again for the third and final installment later...

cheers,

ironman...

and just a last note to tack on that previous post:

Dan and Brian ran a 5k at 8 a.m. the next day.

Impressive? I think so... given the night we had...

Brian? superman of course...

Cheers,

Boston photo retrospective, part I...

so, here it is... i finally got off my duff to put up the first installment of photos from my trip back to boston a couple of weekends ago...

In this series, you'll find me enjoying an eveing of fine food and the comfort of the company of old friends at Le Petit Robert Bistro in Kenmore, followed by a few drinks at Au Tua Anua, and, well... let's let the photos do the talking...

That's me, Timmy, and his lovely GF Hieu at the restaurant... nice shot... hard to believe one of the guys took it--Mac, I think...

Here's Brian and Greg proudly displaying the bottle of port that five of us knocked off at the end of the meal--it was a pretty good bottle... I think grandfather Desforges would have approved...

here's everybody at the end of the meal... just a wonderful time--everything was very nice... and then onto...

this is really the beginning of the end... keith, amanda and i sharing a booth at Au Tua Anua... all scotch, all the time from this point on...

good times, good times...

me take picture good... or something like that...

aren't they cute? I always knew dan was quite the sensitive chap... that's Lauren with him...

anyways, onwards and upwards...

mac, dan and i enjoying the halloween party's sights... approaching closing, i'm certain...

ah, yes... timmy and i went to chau chow's for a late nite snack, and this is sal (who graciously hosted my stay) at about three in the morning...

he looks happy to see me...

at least it's a friday night...

and that's the end of part I... more photos to come, but that should hold y'all over for now...

the unveilling...

here we go...

w/ a very busy week, and no news to report other than it's good to be back in school although it's a very busy week until next monday...

so, with no further ado, i'm happy to unveil the photo inspiration for the title of this blog:

ta da!

nice, huh?

cheers,
