done...

I'm done with my first year of medical school...

granted, there are a few loose ends to tie up, and things never really stop, but I'm done with class...

it's anti-climactic... very anti-climactic...

i don't know what else to say...

sportsmanship...

i've been watching quite a bit of the world cup these days--ever since being in africa and watching it four years ago, i've found it to be quite interesting...

anyway, today i've struck by good sportsmanship in the world cup... i'm pretty sure it's just widespread good form, but when a player goes down and the opposing team has the ball, they'll out it, resulting in a stoppage of play to check on the injured player. But the team with the ball cedes it to their opponents with the downed man...

and to repay the gesture, after the downed man is taken care of, the team puts the ball into play to the goalie of the other team, returning possession in turn for the stoppage that was "granted"...

i just thought it was quite notable...

cheers,

bad sox...

so, i went to two red sox games this week...

very much the wrong two... not that the other one would have been such a great drive home, but at least it would have been a game to watch...

but wednesday's game was a total rout with clement pitching absolutely horribly in his first start off the DL, and then on thursday, the sox just got beat behind wakefield... not his best pitching or anything, but silva pitched a great game, and the sox really had no answer...

on thursday, we had great seats--row nine, by third base... and it was rowdy in a way i never see the metrodome (ugly place by the way, and not so comfortable)... fenway rowdy--lots of sox fans made the trip or live in the area...

anyway, the three hours round trip in car are particularly dour sitting on those losses...

and those are the only two games i'll see all year...

death...

Death swept into the flat last night, and departed with the essence of Mephistophales the Blue Beta...

I found him this morning floating at the bottom of his bowl, and I was especially distraught given his recent improvement in health.

A Teaching on the Nature of Death by Zen Master Hofaku:

Once master Hofaku called his monks together and said: "This last week my energy has been draining - no cause for worry. It is just that death is near."

A monk asked: "You are about to die! What does it mean? We will go on living. And what does that mean?"

"They are both the way of things," the master replied.

"But how can I understand two such different states?"

Hofaku answered: "When it rains it pours," and then calmly dies.

All composite things are impermanent,
They are subject to birth and death;
Put an end to birth and death,
And there is a blissful tranquillity.

One word...

hello all,

maybe i'm alone in this, but in watching the tele recently, I feel like there are an insane number of television shows premiering in the coming month that have one-word titles... slightly vague ones to boot...

things like 'justice' and 'saved'...

i dunno... just seems like this whole one-worder phenom has or is about to, dare i say, 'jump the shark'...

BoSox are in town... let's go, boyz...

cheers,
